Pray with Bridgeway this Sunday-UPDATED!

…Hey that rhymes!

This Sunday we will meet at our apartment for a unique event.  We are going to video-skype with Bridgeway Church in Oklahoma City for a brief time of prayer and an update.  I strongly encourage you to come if you are able as it will be a sweet time to join in prayer with part of the Greater Body of Christ.  Bridgeway Church is the church that sent us out and continues to resource and encourage us in our growth as a new Body.  Because we want to do this during their morning service, please come to our place at 11:30 am for brunch and then we will join the Bridgeway service via skype shortly after.  Our address is 42 W. 120th St., Apt. 7C, NY, NY  10027.

We will provide a delicious, lite, brunchy meal.  Feel free to bring anything you would like to add as well.  Bless you all!  Hope you’re having a great week with God.

Gathering this Sunday, Nov. 23rd

Join us this week as we begin our study in the gospel of John.  This Sunday we will look at the powerful description of Jesus through his close friend and disciple, John, in the first chapter of his gospel.  ”The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” - vs. 14.  This truth and these words have changed the life of everyone that has ever lived and anyone that ever will live!  God came near and bestowed the mystery of the gospel-the good news-upon us.  As we gather this week, we will hear again about when Heaven invaded earth and changed everything because of it.

DETAILS:  We will meet at Ashley’s apartment at 1 pm.  Her address is 324 E. 91st Apt 15 (between 1st and 2nd Ave).  Nearby transportation includes the green subway line, bus 15, or bus 102.  Food will be provided so come hungry!

Meditating on the gospel of John

11/16/08

Tonight at house church I shared that I believe God has some good things stashed within the gospel of John for us to be revealed over the next several weeks.  With the celebration of Christ’s birth coming quickly next month, I think we can benefit from John’s intimate insights into who Jesus was (and is) as a means to prepare our hearts for the Christmas celebration.  God came near through his son, Jesus.  God came near and everything changed.  God came near and I am changed because of his intimate closeness to me.

I shared a snapshot of certain passages in John that have been particularly significant to me in my walk with God as a means to whet our appetites for the rich truths tucked away in John’s gospel.  I will reiterate those here for anyone that was not able to be with us, and for those that were there to peruse through them over the coming weeks to see if they help stir any desire to dive into them more deeply.  As I said to the group tonight, let me know if your heart is stirred to share anything God may impart as you meditate on John’s good news.  Enjoy!

Significant moments in John’s gospel for me…
1)      John 1 – In the beginning was the Word…
         -     Makes me look at the Word differently as a precious and divine revelation as well as the fact that Jesus is without question fully God
2)      John 4 – Jesus’ interaction with the Samaritan woman
         -      Helps me see Jesus’ passion for people regardless of social stigmas
3)      John 8 – The adulterous woman
         - I see Christ’s enormous capacity for forgiveness and his disdain for man’s preoccupancy with self-righteousness
4)      John 13 – Jesus washes his disciples’ feet
         - I see Christ’s willingness to be our servant
5)      John 15 – vs. 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches”
         - My life responsibility is to remain in Him.  Everything else flows out of that
6)       John 21 10-12 – Jesus again serves the disciples by preparing a meal for them
         - Not much to say about this other than that it has always impacted me to see how Christ took care of his disciples – even in the every day things
7)      John 21 15-19 – Jesus restores Peter’s faith and commitment to follow him after he denied Jesus three times by asking him to reiterate his love for Jesus three times
         - I see Jesus’ relentless passion for us to be fully committed to him in the way he went after Peter

Gathering this Sunday, Nov. 9th

Our first Marathon Watch Party was so fun last week!  We were glad everyone came that was able to make it, and we’re pretty sure it will become an annual event for us as long as we’re still in this apartment.

This Sunday let’s gather at our home at 1:00 for food.  We will provide the infamous ‘frito chile pie’ for lunch.  If you’ve never had it or heard of it, just expect chili and we will coach you through the rest.  After we eat will get back into our normal rhythm of worship, Word, and prayer.

All are welcome!  Our address is 42 W. 120th, Apt. 7C.  Here’s a map.

Gathering this Sunday, Nov. 2nd

MARATHON WATCH PARTY 2008!

This Sunday is the NYC Marathon and since mile 22 (of 26.2) is directly in front of our building, we will be opening our apt. at 11 am to 2ish pm for anyone that would like to come over and cheer the runners on from either our windows or down on our sidewalk.  (The race begins at 10, but the leaders won’t be on our street until about 11:30).  Right in front of our place is almost a quarter-mile stretch of road on which the runners will be coming directly toward our apt. building so it’s a great vantage point.  There is also one of three “ING Cheering Zones” located in the park across the street if anyone would like to get in on that action.

Then at 12:00 we will enjoy a pancake brunch together.  Come to as much as you would like to.  We will be spending the day hanging out, so if you’ve been wanting to bring someone along but haven’t been sure how they would respond to the “churchy” stuff, this Sunday may be a great time for them to come.  If you want to enjoy the meal with us, Kara is coordinating those details.  Ask her what you can bring at both her office and home email addresses:  kara.keeton@ubs.com AND karakeeton@yahoo.com.

Our address is 42 W. 120th, St. Apt. 7C.  Here’s a map.  We are nearest to the 2 or 3 train at 116th St.  (Beware:  the 1 train does not get you to our place).

We look forward to seeing you!
