I’m not so sure about the words to “Oklahoma” as I am a native Michigander, but I think I learned them once while teaching 4th graders during college! — Anna

    Leaders:
Well, I am not quite good at writing things ( I am better at teaching 2nd grade) but I am going to give it a whirl. If, anything it is my prayer that this encourage other leaders. I first and fore most don’t claim to have all the answers on leading or life in general! These are just some of my reflections on leadership that I have been processing this year while I haven’t been leading! This started when a good friend of mine asked me my thoughts on it and if my responses would be the same now that I haven’t led in a while. So, the next few parts are what I have experienced. Here goes:

Imperfect people don’t need perfect leaders. They need people who can just be real with them. I have found that what attracts other is authenticity to who you are as a person and to Jesus Christ. Those in the church and the lost find it freeing to be with a person that admits there messes in life and how they are working with Jesus in these areas. It liberates others to be real because they know you won’t judge them and that you are evidence of a God of unconditional love and mercy!

A positive from leadership that I love is when you get to partner with the Holy Spirit and speak a person’s destiny over them (to tell them and share with them how Jesus’s sees them and feels about them) and they get it, to the point that it changes everything. Some might call this an aha moment. Whatever, you refer to it as it is a gift from God.

Those you are leading are never yours. They are God’s!!!!!!! ( If I could put this in bold and 72 font I would). This is one one of my biggest struggles and I admit that! I always want to take on proud parent role almost that is not mine to take on!
Your success is not based on your followers. They have to choose for themselves and they have their own individual relationship with God.
To take pride in their success or shame in their failures belongs to the Lord
To take that on ourselves is to take on Christ’s role. Our role is to Love them.

Responsibilities are a gift from God as well. I forget this alot, and honestly tend to complain about it most of the time to the Lord, but it is true! To have responsibility from the Lord is in a form to have trust from the Lord, and that is an amazing gift from God. It is more evidence of his crazy unconditional love for his people!!! TO give his people responsibility is to see that God doesn’t look at the past of his people but looks at their hearts and the destiny that he has put in front of them!

****We are not gonna have all the answers to disciple them.
Leadership= being a friend, an authentic friend and sharing what you have
When you are friends with someone you don’t take as much pride or shame in their success and failures!

To feel love for people and ache with intercession for them, how much more is God’s love for them and you than you can feel or understand! You don’t want any of them to perish, how much more the Lord’s desires.

Indentity in leadership= you are a lover!!!!
Its’ good for leadership to effect your life and change you but its so important to be grounded in God’s love so the enemy doesn’t use it to wound you more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It”s good to remind yourself of who you are in Christ even in good times too! Often times we tend to do this more in the rough times but it keeps us in check particularly our pride in the good times!

Well, there you have it my rambling thoughts and reflections on leadership! One last word: Don’t do it alone, it just plain doesn’t work and its not suppose too!!!! Leaders need community and people just as much, so spend time alone with Jesus, and be accountable with someone, or you will burn out! Jesus doesn’t call those that have it all together. He calls the falling apart messed up disciples because he knows their dependence is upon him!!! So, keep your dependence upon him only and walk out this crazy life with people and Jesus will receive the Glory!!!!

I leave you with one of my favorite quotes: ” It wasn’t the ministry that made life worthwhile, it was watching the faithfulness of God all the days of my life!” -Corie ten Boom And this is my prayer for you, that leading, and life in general would be about his faithfulness to you and your response to that, would you get to see that all the days of your life for his glory!
