Gathering this Sunday, Nov. 9th

Our first Marathon Watch Party was so fun last week!  We were glad everyone came that was able to make it, and we’re pretty sure it will become an annual event for us as long as we’re still in this apartment.

This Sunday let’s gather at our home at 1:00 for food.  We will provide the infamous ‘frito chile pie’ for lunch.  If you’ve never had it or heard of it, just expect chili and we will coach you through the rest.  After we eat will get back into our normal rhythm of worship, Word, and prayer.

All are welcome!  Our address is 42 W. 120th, Apt. 7C.  Here’s a map.

Gathering this Sunday, Nov. 2nd

MARATHON WATCH PARTY 2008!

This Sunday is the NYC Marathon and since mile 22 (of 26.2) is directly in front of our building, we will be opening our apt. at 11 am to 2ish pm for anyone that would like to come over and cheer the runners on from either our windows or down on our sidewalk.  (The race begins at 10, but the leaders won’t be on our street until about 11:30).  Right in front of our place is almost a quarter-mile stretch of road on which the runners will be coming directly toward our apt. building so it’s a great vantage point.  There is also one of three “ING Cheering Zones” located in the park across the street if anyone would like to get in on that action.

Then at 12:00 we will enjoy a pancake brunch together.  Come to as much as you would like to.  We will be spending the day hanging out, so if you’ve been wanting to bring someone along but haven’t been sure how they would respond to the “churchy” stuff, this Sunday may be a great time for them to come.  If you want to enjoy the meal with us, Kara is coordinating those details.  Ask her what you can bring at both her office and home email addresses:  kara.keeton@ubs.com AND karakeeton@yahoo.com.

Our address is 42 W. 120th, St. Apt. 7C.  Here’s a map.  We are nearest to the 2 or 3 train at 116th St.  (Beware:  the 1 train does not get you to our place).

We look forward to seeing you!

Prayer Changes Nations!

October 10th, 2008

As I’m sure you are aware, our nation is in one of the most significant financial crises it has seen in a very long time.  An article on MSN Money this past Friday reported that the Dow Jones experienced its worst week ever in its 112-year history.  In 1857 during a similar financial downturn, a man named Jeremiah Lanphier organized a prayer meeting in downtown NYC.  It began humbly, but rapidly exploded into one of the greatest movements of God in our nation’s history.  Read the story here…

As Christians, a couple of us have been asking ourselves how we are to respond to our nation’s current financial situation and our first gut reaction is simply to pray.  We believe God is faithful and hears our prayers.  We believe he can not only turn the tide of this crisis but he can also use it to turn hearts of men and women toward him that may never have thought to stop and consider their need for him before.  We believe God wants us to respond with prayer in this season and to invite others to join with us.

Will you respond with prayer?

When:  Every other Tuesday beginning October 14th at 7:00 am.

Where:  144 E. 44th, 7th Floor.  Priority Associates Offices are located just East of Grand Central Station

Who:  Absolutely anyone is welcome to join us.

What to Expect:  The gathering will be organized so that you may come for the full hour or for 5 or 10 minutes.  There will be specific issues to pray for as well as opportunity to receive prayer if you would like.

We don’t know what God will do with this hour of prayer, but we believe that it is no small thing to gather and pray.  Come join us and please spread the word.

Gathering in Brooklyn - Sunday Oct. 12 at 4:00

This Sunday we will be meeting at Kara’s place again in Brooklyn (address below).  This week will be different in that we won’t plan a meal together.  Kara has been and will be studying for her Series-7 exam so we want to allow time for her to do that.  So come at 4:00 ready to dive in and afterwards, maybe we can go get a bite together while Kara hits the books!  Give me a shout if you have questions.

After the Art… This Sunday

After the art tour this weekend (see post below), we’ll be meeting at Daniel and Keren’s at 6:30pm.  They live in the garden-level apartment at 118th and Pleasant - address is 335 Pleasant Ave.  We realize this is later than normal for a Sunday night but consider it a special occasion.  It should be an amazing time especially following the excitement of the art tour.  You might also consider coming early and enjoying some of the pieces before we gather.  Please bring your dinner with you and be ready to dive into the community of believers we’ve been so blessed with.  Questions - call Andy at 405.921.6411.

Keep going in faith,
Jessica

Yo Friends,

This next coming weekend (Oct. 4-5) is the Harlem Open Artist Studio Tour 2008.  daniel Baltzer (dB) will be participating as his own personal home studio will be a stop on the tour.  daniel is a very talented painter, a good friend, and part of our church plant.  As a group, we have been praying for daniel to experience more freedom in his painting and for favor in the art world.  This Tour is one of a few invitations daniel has recieved lately to display (and hopefully sell) more of his art.  If you are in the neighborhood that weekend, jump into the tour and check out his and other Harlem artists’ works.  If you want a preview of daniel’s work you can go to http://dbaltzer.com/pages/thumb_pages/broadcast.html.  And for more information on the Tour go to http://www.hoast.org/.

A few words about ‘broadcast’ the series from dB…

Begun in May 2006, broadcast is a series of paintings that explore the use of communication technology to create and maintain social networks around the world. This technology has the potential to weave people, ideas and culture into a single dynamic fabric. To participate in this process involves taking risks, as children do when they play. Children use play earnestly as an opportunity to explore and connect, creating the framework by which they learn and make more complex decisions, while staying adaptive. Communication through play is a basic element to understanding the world and the link we have to society through the networks we have formed.
