The Bridgeway Internship is an 11 month, 20 hours a week, paid training program to help Christ followers explore and prepare for the possibility of a lifetime in ministry.
The internship revolves around a 20 hours/week schedule - 8 hours of class and community + 12 hours of supervised hands-on ministry experience. The 12 hours of supervised experience will be tailored around ministry events and the individual schedules of the pastors and interns. This will allow interns to supplement the internship with college courses and/or additional work.
The internship begins on September 5, 2017, and concludes on July 30, 2018. The internship will be on hiatus during the month of December 2017.
WHO ARE POTENTIAL CANDIDATES FOR THE INTERNSHIP?
The internship is for those who believe God has called them into ministry and desire to explore and prepare for this calling in a reformed and continuationist context. All ministry areas are interested in receiving both male and female applicants.
WHAT ARE SOME DISTINCTIVE ELEMENTS OF THE INTERNSHIP?
WORD AND SPIRIT
Bridgeway is described as a Word and Spirit church. All training will be centered on the absolute inerrant truth of Scripture and the continual pursuit of manifestations of the Holy Spirit.
Christian hedonism is best described by John Piper: “God is most glorified when we are most satisfied in Him.” We believe that growth in Christ happens when we are focused on the dual pursuit of our joy and His glory.
CONFORMITY TO CHRIST
“This is the will of God, your sanctification,” (I Thessalonians 4:3) “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son” (Romans 8:29) Intimate conformity to Christ, that manifests in increasing love and integrity, is of paramount importance in all that we do.
We believe that the gospel is the sole source of salvation and sanctification to prepare for ministry and life in Christ.
CALL TO CHURCH PLANTING
We desire to see obedience to Christ result in local expressions of the Church being reproduced throughout Oklahoma and the world.
HOLISTIC SPIRITUAL GROWTH
Both class time and practical ministry will be focused on transforming the mind, heart, and body in accordance with Scripture.
MIND: The Bible is the sole and infallible truth for knowing the God. We joyfully and faithfully depend on Scripture as our litmus test for understanding the gospel.
HEART: The risen savior has given us his Spirit to dwell in the hearts of his redeemed followers. Romans 5:5 says: “the love of God has been put into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who he has given us.” Ministry preparation and exploration exposes and expresses God's love and the Spirit he has given us to know, love, and obey him.
BODY: The gospel extends to transforming all of who we are, “you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (I Corinthians 6:20) This means we know how to obey because of what he has said in Scripture. This means that his risen presence empowers our obedience.
IS THE INTERNSHIP A PAID POSITION?
Yes. Bridgeway will compensate at $500 a month, with the expectation that each intern will raise their own support of an additional $500 per month. Fundraising will be an important skill in almost every future ministry endeavor. Interns will be provided with training specific to raising funds for this internship and for the future.
HOW MANY POSITIONS AND WHAT MINISTRY AREAS ARE AVAILABLE?
There are six intern openings focusing on one of four ministry areas.
